Expats in Qatar no longer need NOC to switch jobs, Ministry sets Minimum Salary

Expatriates in Qatar no more need No Objection Certificate (NOC) form their employer or sponsor if they want to change their job or sponsorship as per the press release of Ministry of Administration Development, Labour an Social Affairs (MADLSA) and the Government Communications Office (GCO).




Earlier, expats in Qatar had to get their employer's permission a No Objection Certificate in order to switch job. Now expatriates can change their jobs before the end of their contract without approval from first employer.

- Either party must provide 1 month written notice in the first 2 years of contract or 2 months notice beyond the 2nd year of the contract said MADLSA in its statement.

- If the contract is terminated without notice, the party terminating is obligated to pay the other party compensation equal to basic salary of the employee for the notice period.




- The ministry also said it will be working with employers to update all employment contracts where workers earn less than the amount specified by new law, it will come into force after 6 months of its publication in official gazette.

- A minimum wage committee will be formed and tasked with frequently studying and reviewing the minimum wage of employees and domestic workers. The basic monthly minimum salary of a worker will be 1,000 Qatari riyals.
