Penalties for not using Seat Belt or using Mobile Phone while Driving in Saudi Arabia
As the automatic violation monitoring of seat belt and use of mobile while driving is about to start in Al Jouf region, while in some regions it was started a year back, The General Traffic Department clarified the value of financial fines for violating seat belt and using a mobile while driving. The General Traffic Department in Saudi Arabia said not fastening seat belt by driver or a passenger next to driver is a traffic violation as per the law of traffic. Those who violates the law by not fastening the seat belt are subject to get a fine of 150 SR to 300 SR for the first time.
- In case the violation of not fastening seat belt is repeated within 30 days, the fine will be raised to its highest level including suspension of 24 hours or both penalties. Read : Penalties for pedestrians crossing Highways
- Similarly, using mobile phone while driving is a traffic violation in the traffic law and the offender can be fined from 500 SR to 900 SR for using mobile phone while driving.
- The Traffic department identified some violations that affecting public safety are
* Drifting
* Driving vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant or narcotic
* Bypassing the red light signal
* Driving vehicle in opposite direction of Traffic
* Dodging vehicles quickly between vehicles on public roads
* Obscuring vehicle plates
