HR Minister extends Covid-19 related Article 41 of Labor law regulations to 9 Months from 6 Months
The Minister of Human Resources and Social Development in Saudi Arabia, Eng. Ahmed Al Rajhi issued a decision requiring the extension of the procedures stated in Article 41 of the Executive regulations of Saudi Labor law to 9 months starting from the date on which the Kingdom took the measures mentioned in paragraph one of Article 41.
Article 41 of the Saudi Labor Law includes all workers in establishments and sectors affected by the precautionary measures taken to curb the spread of Covid-19 and that are mentioned in Article 5 of Labor law.

- Article 41 allows employers to reduce salaries, setting annual leaves and granting unpaid leaves for a period of 6 months due to the coronavirus pandemic, now this extended to 9 months. However, there are still few conditions and other points which must be followed as per Article 41.
- The decision of extending the procedures mentioned in Article 41 comes in order to serve the public interest to preserve the stability and profits of the labor market and to safeguard the interests of both the employers and workers in the private sector. - The Article 41 came into effect from 6th April 2020 and it only applies whenever the government takes any measures regarding as general situation that warrants a reduction of working hours or any precautionary measure in order to prevent the situation from worsening because of the covid-19 pandemic.
