Saudi Food and Drug Authority warned of violations that penalizes with 10 million Riyals fine & 10 Years Jail
The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) warned for violating its regulations related to safety of food, fodders, medicines and medical equipment, Those who violates it to face a maximum penalty of 10 million riyals and 10 years jail term.
If any company found to be dealing with adultered food, they will be fined ranging from 100,000 riyals to 1,000,000 riyals. In case of repeating the crime intentionally, the penalty increases to 10 million rails with 10 years imprisonment, as per the Article 16 of Food law.
- If a company using fodder containing substances or harmful materials that cause harm to public or animal health will face a fine of 200,000 riyals to 1 million riyals, including the destruction of fodder as per the article 15/2 of Fodder law. - Advertising a cosmetic product that is not listed or violates the controls and conditions of advertising will be slapped with a fine of 5 million riyals as per the Cosmetic Products Law.
- Anyone selling Veterinary cosmetics without a permit to be fined with 5 million riyals as per the article 4 of Veterinary Cosmetics Law. Anyone who provides incorrect or wrong data for getting registration for a firm or license for product will also be punished.
- The penalties includes temporary suspension of the company's license or revoking license, withdrawing product, stopping its circulation, canceling the marketing and referring the case to Public Prosecution to apply penal law of forgery crime as per the article 30 of Medical equipment and products control regulation.
- The Authority stressed the importance of following the laws and regulations in order to preserve the safety of citizens and expatriates. SFDA regulates, monitors and supervise food, medicine and medical and diagnostic devices and sets mandatory standard specifications for them, where they are imported or locally manufactured. - The Food and Drug Authority is also responsible for monitoring and examining them in their laboratories and educating the consumer in everything related to food, medicine, medical instruments and all associated products and cosmetics as well as electronic products that affect human health.
