India to vaccinate 300 Million people with Corona Vaccine in its First phase
Indian government is preparing to provide 300 million people in the first phase of coronavirus vaccine, out of which 270 million are the people who are above 50 years said Niti Aayog member, Vinod Paul.
According to the statistics, 80% of the death rate due to Corona virus in India are the people who are above 50 years and 70% of the people who have comorbidities and who are more than 50 years. - From the remaining 30 million, The two groups would be given priority one is healthcare and the other frontline workers.
* 10 Million Healthcare Workers (Government and Private)
* 20 Million Frontline Workers (State and central department Police Staff, Armed Forces, Home Guards, Civil Defence Organizations including disaster management volunteers and municipal workers.
- A government appointed panel of experts to consider requests for emergency use approval of two Covid-19 vaccines.
* CoviShield developed by Oxford University and pharma major AstraZeneca and being manufactured by the Serum Institute of India.

- Once these vaccine are cleared by expert panel, The application will be submitted to the regulatory body Drugs Controller General of India (DGCI) for final approval.
- Serum Institute of India has already produced around 50 million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca jab and plans to scale it up to 100 million by March as per the CEO.

- Covishield requires 2 doses but is believed to be easier to deliver as it does not need extremely low temperatures from 2 to 8 degrees centigrade for storage. Meanwhile, Covaxin showed it was safe and triggered immune responses in an ongoing early stage trial and is currently of late stage trial.
