WhatsApp delays its Privacy Update after its Worldwide Users confused on it
WhatsApp application announced the postponement of the new privacy terms update after the protests from users, pointing out that no account will be suspended or deleted after 8th February.
WhatsApp in its issued statement, explained that it will provide all the information to clarify privacy issues, noting that the recent update provides greater transparency about the collection and use of information.
- The Facebook company 'WhatsApp' pointed out that the recent update does not expand the database for sharing data with the social networking site "Facebook", stressing that it will make a greater effort to clarify erroneous information regarding privacy and security. - The "WhatsApp", based in California, announced that it reserves the right to share some data, including the location and phone number, with "Facebook" and its units such as "Instagram" and "Messenger".
- For its part, the "Facebook" company rushed to deal with a sudden competitive threat to the "WhatsApp" platform after the change of privacy policy raised fears of users, and their rush in large numbers to competitors such as "Signal" and "Telegram".
- The encrypted messaging app WhatsApp, which has more than 2 billion users worldwide, and many senior executives, went on to explain the upcoming changes in the privacy policy that covers data that can be shared between WhatsApp and its parent company now, after pushing it towards e-commerce.
- Signal was downloaded 8.8 million times worldwide in the week that followed the announcement of WhatsApp's privacy update for the first time on January 4, compared to 246,000 times the week before, according to data from the Sensor Tower. - WhatsApp recorded 9.7 million downloads in the week after the announcement, compared to 11.3 million before that, down 14%, as per the Financial Times report.
- Telegram app also took advantage of concerns about WhatsApp to be downloaded 11.9 million times in the week following the January 4th update from 6.5 million the previous week.
- Some users have interpreted the new WhatsApp policies as indicating that sensitive user data will be shared with the parent company Facebook for the first time, including the content of messages, which sparked outrage on social media.
- WhatsApp said in a statement released late on Monday that the policy update, which will take effect on February 8th, “does not affect the privacy of your messages with friends or family in any way.
