100% Saudization in Ride-Hailing services app in Saudi Arabia
The Minister of Transport in Saudi Arabia, Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser has approved 100% Saudization in ride-hailing services based on applications. All jobs in this sector done using private vehicles or vehicles operated by companies will be limited to Saudis.
Al-Jasser is also the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Public Transport Authority, he stated that the total Saudization of this sector comes as part of creating more job opportunities for young Saudi men and women. He noted that expatriates working in this sector amount to only 4%.
- He added, the authority has launched many initiatives and taken several measures in order to create more jobs for Saudi nationals in this sector by forging successful partnerships with many government agencies, including the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, and the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF). - The most prominent of these initiatives and measures include amending the traffic law so as to allow Saudis to operate private ride-hailing vehicles, as per the report of Saudi Gazette.
- The ministry also signed an agreement with the Social Development Bank to finance private vehicles to operate in this sector in addition to signing an agreement with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development and the Human Resources Development Fund to support Saudis with 40% of income, not exceeding 2,400 Saudi Riyals, for those who operate certain trips during peak times.
- Careem ride-hailing app has welcomed the decision of government to fully localize the sector in Saudi Arabia, explaining this move will create more jobs for Saudi citizens. Careem said they are proud that more than 100,000 Saudi citizens are finding income-earning opportunity with the company each month.
