Saudi Arabia ranked 5th as fastest country in World in handling Container ships
Saudi Arabia ranked 5th as the fastest country in the world in handling container ships, as per the annual UNCTAD index for the year 2020 issued by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
According to the UNCTAD Global Index report issued by the organization, the average stay of container ships, including entry, exit, loading and unloading, in the Kingdom's ports reached 16.8 hours, and this is the first time that the Kingdom entered in the list of the best 10 ports in the world. The General Authority for Ports implemented a package of initiatives that contributed to this progress in joint cooperation with the General Directorate of Border Guards, the General Authority for Customs, and the General Authority for Food and Drug in accordance with international best practices, including the cancellation of the pre-requisite approval to start handling operations for the ship "unloading and loading containers".
- When berthing the ship in to improving the productivity of container handling unloading and loading containers, after signing the new container assignment contracts in 2020 that included the existence of performance indicators (KPI) for handling, as well as the re Engineering ship travel procedures and automate ship travel permits.
- The Minister of Transport and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Ports, Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, explained that this qualitative progress comes as a result of the unlimited support that the logistical sector in the Kingdom receives from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and His Highness, Crown Prince, and confirmation of the qualitative initiatives launched by the General Authority Ports according to its strategic objectives that are in line with the national strategy for transport and logistical services that contribute to consolidating the Kingdom's position as a global logistics hub and linking hub for the 3 continents, in line with the pillars of the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program "Nadlib" in accordance with the Saudi Vision 2030.
- He said, “Saudi ports are witnessing qualitative shifts in their various operations through developing the port management environment and infrastructure, raising their operational and logistical efficiency, and exploiting their advanced capabilities in establishing development projects that contribute to achieving added value for the national economy and meeting the requirements of sustainable development.” Recommend : Huroob expat workers can now register with Tawakkalna app
