Up to 2 Years Imprisonment, 1 Million riyals fine for brokering Human organs in Saudi Arabia


A maximum of 2 years jail term or 1 million Saudi Riyals fine or both for those who involves in brokering a reward in cash or paying or accepting or any such type for the organ donation, as per the provision of the Organ Donation Law approved by the Council of Ministers of Saudi Arabia.



As per the law, it is not allowed to reveal any information related to the body of the donor whether alive or dead except in the legally determined cases or if an order is issued to do so by a judiciary authority, the violators of this order will be penalized with a fine not exceeding 500,000 SR.

- The law warned health centers against violating the ban of using organs, which are removed, for purposes other than what is meant for donation. Those violators will face penalties including jail term or a fine or both. Trending : Payment of Fines is a condition for transacting services in Absher

- It is also not allowed donation of a human organ if that organs indispensable for the life of donor. According to the Article 11 of the law, the dignity of the donor shall be protected while removing the organ and protect it from damage.

The law permits for the transfer, transplant, preservation and development of organs to preserve human life, protect the rights of those from or to whom human organs transferred. It also stipulates the responsibilities of licensed health centers with regard to organ donation and transplantation and stops misuse of the need of the patient or donor or trafficking in human organs.

- The draft law was approved by the Shoura Council in September 2019. The Council of Senior Scholars and the Council of Islamic Jurisprudence issued a fatwa 22 years ago permitting the donation of organs of the deceased, reported Saudi Gazette.
