External Loudspeakers in Mosques to be use only for Adhan and Iqamat in Saudi Arabia
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance in Saudi Arabia has imposed restrictions on the use of external loudspeakers in mosques to call for prayer (Adhan) and Iqamat (2nd call for congregational prayer) only.
The Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Abullatif Bin Abdulaziz Al Sheikh issued a circular to all mosques across the Kingdom, to limit the use of external loudspeakers only for Azaan and Iqama and lower the volume of loudspeakers to one-third level.
- The minister warned that regulatory measures would be taken against anyone who violates the circular. This come after the ministry noticing the external loudspeakers are used during performing prayers, This may harm patients, elder people and children in the houses in the vicinity of the mosques. - The circular is based on evidence of Shariah, most important of which is the Prophet's saying that all worshipers are praying and supplicating to Allah Almighty, so they should not harm or cause inconvenience for one another by loud recitations during prayer.
- Imam's voice during prayer must be heard by all inside the mosque, and there is no need the voice to be heard in the neighboring houses outside, as per the Shariah.
