Saudi Arabia releases new Detailed images of Maqam-E-Ibrahim in Makkah
The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques in Saudi Arabia released never seen images of the Maqam Ibrahim or the Station of Abraham, in Makkah's Grand Mosque using a new technique that uses stacked panoramic focus.
Earlier this, authorities released similar high-definition images of the Hajar-Al-Aswad (Black Stone) of the Holy Kaaba. Related : Saudi Arabia releases never seen images of Black Stone of Holy Kaaba
- Maqam-E-Ibrahim is the stone that bears the imprint of where the Prophet Ibrahim stood while building the Holy Kaaba when the walls became too high.
- Maqam-Al-Ibrahim is enshrined with a gold, silver and glass frame to preserve the footprints of Prophet Ibrahim. Muslims believe that the stone in which the footprints are imprinted come down directly from heaven along with the famous Black Stone (Hajar Al-Aswad).
- The shrine stone is marked by two footprints of Prophet Ibrahim, It is believed that after finishing the construction of the Kaaba, Prophet Abraham stood up on the stone, his foot dived into it to commemorate the construction of the Holy Kaaba.
- Throughout the history, it remained adjacent to the Holy Kaaba and one of the landmarks of Makkah. The footprints faded away and the toe marks almost disappeared because the stone exposed to public, in which large number of people touched it over the years. - When Prophet Mohammed conquered Makkah, he and his companions decided to shift the stone from its original location to near the Kaaba, which is its current location with a distance of more than 10 meters, for facilitating the Tawaf ritual and to allow worshipers to pray behind the shrine as describe in the Quran.
- In the Saudi era, specifically in the reign of King Faisal, expansion works were ordered and buildings were removed to facilitate Tawaf rituals with better ease, A crystal glass and a silver cover were installed, reports Al Arabiya.
- Later, it has been renovate after the restoration works that took place during the reign of King Fahd, heat resistant and shatter proof frosted glass has been placed above the shrine covered in copper encased in gold. Know more : World's 20 largest Muslim population countries
