Saudi Arabia signs deal with Pfizer, AstraZeneca for local production and Medical research
Saudi Arabia has signed two initial agreements with Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccine makers to produce vaccines locally, to enhance its medical research capabilities and to promote investment in the health sector of the Kingdom.
The Ministry of Investment and the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs signed an agreement with pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca to establish a world class clinical research centers in Saudi Arabia, with the aim of enhancing the business of the AstraZeneca group in the Kingdom.
- The Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources and the King Abdullah International Center for Medical Research (KAIMRC) falls under the Ministry of Guard Health Affairs also signed a deal with Pfizer Scientific Foundation to build the foundations for the manufacture of viral and genetic vaccines in the Kingdom. - The deals were signed during the activities of the Riyadh Global Medical Biotechnology Summit 2021, which is held in Riyadh from September 14 to 16, it also includes providing technical support for the establishment of human cell platform.
- The Riyadh Summit is bringing together biomedical and health research experts, as well as pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry experts to discuss the role of biotechnology in developing medical solutions.
- There are more than 40 pharmaceutical factories in Kingdom, covering 36% of the needs of local market, the size of the local pharmaceutical market is 32 billion riyals, making it the largest pharmaceutical market in the region, said the Deputy Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Osama Al-Zamil. - This deals to explore opportunities to establish world class clinical research centers in Kingdom with aim of providing best and most innovative pharmaceutical products to patients of Saudi Arabia.
- These agreements will also work to advance the great capabilities of health care sector in Saudi Arabia, whether it in field of research, studies or clinical trials, leading the provision of medical preparations and medicines, in a way that improve the services provided in health sector, stated Minister of Investment, Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al Falih.
- While, the Executive Director of Health Affairs at the Ministry of National Guard, Dr. Bandar bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Knawy explained that the deal with AstraZeneca opens the door for leading international companies to participate in improving the capabilities of health care sector in Saudi Arabia and benefit from the high demand of health services.
