Sharjah in UAE becomes the first city of Arab world to adopt 3 days Off a week
The Executive Council of the Sharjah Government decided the official weekly work system to 4 days from Monday to Thursday and 3 days as weekend from Friday to Sunday, after UAE decided to move weekend from Friday and Saturday to Saturday and Sunday. The Assistant Secretary-General of the Executive Council of the Sharjah Government, Ahmed Al Suwaidi, said that the change includes the official working hours of government agencies in Sharjah to be from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, with the implementation of the new system starting from January 1st, 2022, Sharjah became the first Arab city to implement 3 days a week vacation.
- The Sharjah Government Media Office in UAE said that it was decided to "change the weekly work system in the emirate in line with the vision of the United Arab Emirates to enhance its competitive position for various sectors in a way that supports the business environment and the economic market." - Earlier on Tuesday, UAE announced to reduce the weekly working days from 5 to 4 and half days and switched the weekend to Saturday and Sunday instead of Friday and Saturday.
- Under the new decision, the weekend in UAE for government sector begins from Friday afternoon and ends on Sunday. The country also stated that Friday prayers will be held in UAE's mosques after 1:15 PM throughout the year.
- United Arab Emirates (UAE) became the only Gulf country that does not adopt a weekend on Fridays and Saturdays, the resource-rich and economically ambitious country is taking this step to match the working hours of the Western world.
