Warning of a new Variant arising from Infection with Omicron and Delta together, as per Moderna
The American company "Moderna" warned of the emergence of a new variant of the emerging coronavirus (Covid-19), stating that the new mutant may appear as a result of infection with the 'Omicron' and 'Delta' variants at the same time.
The chief specialist in the company that produced the anti-Coronavirus vaccine, Paul Burton, said that 2 different strains of the Corona virus can infect a person simultaneously, especially people with weak immunity, according to the “Russia Today” website.
- In such case, a process of gene exchange can occur between the two strains, which may turn to the development of the virus and the creation of a new mutation, saying, “In the coming months, these 2 viruses, Delta and Omicron, will coexist, and the infection with the Omicron virus will spread at a time when people are in a very difficult situation with the delta variant, this can lead to cases where people will be infected with two different variants, which makes it possible for these viruses to evolve further, and this case raises concerns.” Trending : Saudi Banks sends a message on updating personal data to avoid financial frauds
- He added that Omicron, which first appeared in South Africa is not less dangerous than Delta strain. Moderna has revealed its research capabilities to manufacture a booster dose of corona vaccine that can target new variant Omicron.
- According to Stephen Hogg, Moderna's President, the company can manufacture a booster dose, which is scheduled to get a license for use in United States within 3 months. He said, booster doses carry genes that precisely and specifically target the variants of new version, making it the fastest way to treat any expected decrease in effectiveness of existing vaccines.
Saudi Arabia announces 88 new corona infection on 15th December :
- Today, Saudi Arabia reports 88 new corona cases, 76 recoveries and 1 death in the last 24 hours, raising the total corona infections in the Kingdom to 550,457 of them 539,712 recovered with 8,857 deaths, leaving 1,888 active cases in the Kingdom. - In the past 24 hours, Health Ministry has performed 56,516 corona tests, so far 32.12 million (32,123,480) covid-19 tests since the beginning of the pandemic.
- So far, Saudi Arabia has vaccinated 48.21 million (48,217,464) doses of Corona vaccine all over the Kingdom, of them, 530,969 are booster doses and the elderly people received 1,727,748 doses.
