GACA and CITC clarifies on Air Navigation overlap with 5G network in Saudi Arabia
The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) clarified in a joint statement that the air navigation systems in the Kingdom’s airspace and airports are safe from potential interference with the 5G mobile communications networks. The authorities clarified that the frequencies used in air transport ensure the operation of air navigation without any risks of interference and meet the requirements of air users, to provide high quality navigational services that apply the highest levels of air safety.
- GACA explained that it is constantly working on updating and developing the air navigation infrastructure and is closely monitoring technical developments, including the new standards for the frequencies of the 5G network. - The General Authority of Civil Aviation stated that in order to meet the increasing needs on air transport traffic and the rapid growth of air traffic in the region, with a focus on safety and focus on the highest standards in the flow of air traffic in line with the standards and requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
- The Communications and Information Technology Commission confirmed that the frequency bands of the 5G network in the Kingdom are defined according to technical standards compatible with international best practices for more than 40 countries around the world.
- CITC pointed out its role as a national regulator of the frequency spectrum by allowing and supporting various radio services for national sectors in the field of Defense, security, space, aviation, communications, meteorology and others, as it is keen to enable highly reliable and safe services for all users, including navigation systems on board aircraft. - The CITC confirmed that these systems used are safe from the risks of radio interference through the 5G networks. The Saudi Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that the navigation in the Kingdom’s airspace is safe from interference with 5G networks.
