Saudi Arabia will no longer bear the costs of treating Corona patients in Private sector
The Health Insurance Council (Dhaman) issued a circular to all the approved healthcare service providers and the qualified health insurance companies in the Kingdom stating, the state will no more bear the costs for treating corona patients in the private sector companies. The Health Council confirmed that the state will bear the costs to complete treatment of any of the corona infected patients who were admitted before 13th March 2022 (10/8/1443) until they were transferred to hospitals under the Ministry of Health, with detailed medical reports in preparation for their transfer when beds are available for them.
- The circular also specified dealing with patients who do not have treatment eligibility or insurance coverage by obtaining prior approval from the health insurance program and purchasing health services through the operating company. - The state to bear the costs of treating such patients, who required hospitalization due to confirmed corona cases with a positive result and needs oxygen due to suffering from severe pneumonia, until they are discharge from the hospital. As well as for those who are inpatients due to lack of oxygen due to pneumonia until 2 negative results are confirmed.
- However, the state will not bear the costs of corona tests in outpatient clinics for symptoms resulting from infection with the Covid-19, except for the cases that required hospitalization.
- The circular of the Health Insurance Council highlighted that the limits of the state bearing the costs of treating inpatients should be within the daily packages according to the price list approved by the Ministry of Health, and what is outside those packages is subject to the individual evaluation of each case and with the prior approval of the program and the purchase of health services from the company. - The state also does not bear the costs of testing or treatment of those who are previously hospitalized, due to another illness and then infected with the Corona virus, or those who reached the emergency for other health reasons, and that cases that reach emergency are dealt with according to the rules for treating emergency cases.
Complete receiving vaccination against Corona virus :
- The Health Council recommended to complete receiving the vaccination doses, as well as the booster doses against Covid-19, according to the directives issued by the Ministry of Health and Prevention.
- The Dhaman pointed out that the circular was issued in light of the falling cases of corona infection as well as the severity of the disease, hospitalization rates, the increase in the proportion of immunized people, and the lifting of precautionary measures related to combating the virus. Insurance companies shall have to cover all expenses resulting from suspected and confirmed cases of Corona virus, for health insurance beneficiaries in line with the limits of the medical insurance document.
