The cost of Food waste in Saudi Arabia exceeds 40 Billion Riyals per year
The Director of the National Program for the Reduction of Food Loss and Waste in Saudi Arabia, Zaid Al-Shabanat confirmed that the value of food waste in the Kingdom exceeds 40 billion riyals annually, as per the study of General Saudi Grains Organization (SAGO).
During an interview with Rabea program on Al-Arabiya, Al-Shabanat said some open buffets are one of the main causes of food waste in Saudi Arabia and the solution to this is community awareness.
- As per the statistics of food waste of the Kingdom, more than 4 million tons of food is wasted per year in Saudi Arabia and the food wastage per person for a year is 184 kg, which is the value of 40 billion riyals annually.

- Earlier this, the Family Affairs Council highlighted the importance of family's important role in reducing food loss and waste rates, by educating its members about the importance of consumption as need and not to be waste. Read : Magical benefits of Beetroot juice
- Food loss is the amount of food that is lost before it reaches to customer, while food waste is what is lost from food intended for consumption after the stages of production and distribution.
