Saudi Arabia condemns Israeli forces attack on Palestinians and Al-Aqsa mosque
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Saudi Arabia's condemnation and denunciation of the Israeli occupation forces storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque and closing its gates, attacking unarmed worshipers inside the mosque and in its external courtyards.
The Ministry stated that, It considered this systematic escalation a blatant attack on the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque and its place in the conscience of the Islamic nation, and a violation of relevant international resolutions and covenants.
- The Kingdom called on the international community to play its role in holding the Israeli occupation forces fully responsible for the repercussions of the continuation of such crimes and violations on the defenseless Palestinian people, their land and their holy sites and on the chances of reviving the peace process in the Middle East. - This came after, Palestinians and Israeli forces have clashed in and around the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem's Old city, marking a significant spike in tensions on what is a day of significance for all three Abrahamic religions.
- Several videos shared on social media networks showed serious unrest and violence at the entrance to the mosque building from before sunrise with Palestinians throwing stones and firecrackers and Israeli forces firing what appeared to be stun grenades and tear gas. There were also early clashes at the Lion's Gate entrance of the Old city.
- According to the Palestinian Red Crescent by mid-morning more than 150 people had been taken to hospital with injuries from rubber bullets and stun grenades, as well as wounds sustained from beatings by police. Follow Saudi Expatriates on Google News
- Jordan, which has a special role as custodian of the Al-Aqsa mosque, has condemned what is described as the storming of the compound calling it a 'flagrant violation'. A spokesman for the Palestinian Authority Presidency called it a 'dangerous development'.
- The Secretariat General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly denounced Israeli forces for entering Al-Aqsa mosque and closing its gates to worshipers. This dangerous escalation as an attack against the feelings of the entire Islamic nation and a flagrant violation of the international resolutions and sanctuaries.
