Decline in Saudi Arabia's population from 35 million to 34.1 million in 2021, after fall of 8.6% of Expatriates
The General Authority for Statistics announced that the total population of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reached 34.1 million in mid of the year 2021, representing a decrease of 2.6% compare to the mid of the year 2020, when the population was 35 million. The authority revealed that the main factor driving the decline in the total population is the decrease in the number of expatriates by 8.6%, as the may non-Saudis left the Kingdom during the Corona pandemic.

- After the population number in Saudi Arabia increased from 34.2 million in the year 2019 to 35 million in the year 2020, the year 2021 witnessed a decrease in the total population to 34.1 million in the mid of the year 2021.
- While natural reproduction, the number of births minus the number of deaths in the year 2021, was positive for Saudis and non-Saudis. The Saudi population constituted 63.6% of the total population, while non-Saudis constituted 36.4%.
- The decrease in the total Saudi Arabia's population was mainly due to the decrease in the number of non-Saudis (expatriates) residing in the Kingdom by 10.6% compare to the year 2020 due to increase in the number of those who left Saudi Arabia during the corona pandemic. - The Statistics Authority also said the increase in the proportion of males in the total population of 56.8% is mainly due to increase in the number of non-Saudi males of working age and the distribution of citizens was more balanced, reaching 50.8% for males and 49.2% for females.
