Ministry of Human Resources clarifies the duration and regulations of Probationary period at Work in Saudi Arabia


The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) in Saudi Arabia clarified the duration and regulations of the probationary period associated with the employment contract. Follow Saudi Expatriates







The Ministry through its labor culture website said that, if the worker is subject to a probationary period, this must be expressly specified in the work contract and clearly define, so that it does not exceed 90 days.

- The Ministry clarified that, it is permissible with an written agreement between the worker and employer, to extend the probation period, given that it does not exceed 180 days, and the holidays of Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha and sick leave must not include in the calculation of probation period. - The Ministry added that each of the party has the right to terminate the contract during this period, unless the contract includes a text giving the right to terminate one of them.





- A worker may not be put on probation more than once with one employer. As an exception, it is permissible by agreement of two parties in the contract, in writing, to subject the worker to another period of probation, given that it must be in another profession or other work or that a period of not less than 6 months passed since the termination of the worker's relationship with employer.
