Forcing a worker to work for long-hours, non payment of Salaries are the signs of Forced Labor - Saudi Committee
Forcing a worker to work for long hours and not paying their salaries as forms are the acts and signs of forced labor and trafficking in persons, according to the Saudi National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking. Similar : Saudi Arabia specifies penalties for Human Trafficking
This was confirmed by the sources at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development to the Saudi Gazette. The source also stated that the forms and signs of forced labor and trafficking in persons includes
* Forcing an employee to work for long-hours and non-payment of wages. Recommend : Saudi Labor Law rejects discriminations in employment
* Threatening the worker about informing the authorities about some undesirable acts of the worker. Recommend
* Forcing the worker to work without rest time as specified in Saudi Labor Law.
* Not allowing the workers to leave workplace, or contact their families or the people except rarely.
* Keeping passport or other documents of the worker in the custody of the employer. Related : Penalties on employers for violations
- All the above practices are considered as administrative violations. If the employers force their workers to get the work done under the above mentioned circumstances, these will comes under the signs of forced labor and suspected cases of trafficking in persons and will be transferred to the competent security authorities for investigation and the necessary legal mechanisms.
