The 2nd edition of the Green Middle East Initiative Summits launched in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia's Prime Minister and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El Sisi, on the sidelines of the COP27 (Climate Change Conference of the Parties) Summit. In his speech, the Saudi Crown Prince said, "I am pleased to be among you Today and convey to you the greetings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and his wishes for the success of Summit". We hope that this Summit will achieve outcomes that establish a bright future, stating that the Kingdom aims to find solutions in order to provide more sustainable energy systems.

- The activities of the Green Middle East Initiative Summit launched in conjunction with the convening of the World Leaders Summit at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP27), with the participation of senior leaders in the world, including heads of state and government from the GCC, Middle East, the Levant, Africa and International partners. - Saudi Crown Prince hosted the first edition of Green Middle East Initiative Summit in Riyadh last year in October. The Summit allowed the first-ever regional dialogue, with participating leaders from over 20 countries agreeing on the need of cooperate and unite efforts to tackle climate change.





- The Green Middle East Initiative presents an ambitious and clear roadmap for regional climate action, ensuring coordinated efforts and a unified approach to address the consequences of climate change on the countries of the region. This initiative will allows the creation of huge economic opportunities in the region, which contributes to promoting sustainable development, allowing economic diversification, providing job opportunities and refreshing private sector investments throughout the region, which will benefit future generations and open up prospects for a green future. - The countries participating in the Green Middle East Initiative Summit 2022 are seeking to achieve the regional goals called for by the Kingdom at the inaugural Summit of the initiative, which is to reduce carbon emissions in the region by more than 10% of global contributions, and to plant 50 billion trees and reclaim 200 million hectares of degraded land, reducing 2.5% of global emissions rates, in the region as per the program, which is the largest tree-planting program in the world.




- The Kingdom is working to diversify its energy mix so that 50% of the electricity will be produced inside the Kingdom by relying on renewable energy sources by the year 2030, stated the Saudi Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman. - The Crown Prince added that the Kingdom will host the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Green Middle East Initiative and its decision to contribute an amount of 2 billion five hundred million dollars in support of the initiative's projects and the budget of the General Secretariat over a period of 10 years.




- He added that, the Public Investment Fund aims to reach zero greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2050 through the circular carbon economy approach, to be one of the first sovereign wealth funds globally and the first in the Middle East, in aiming to reach zero-neutrality by the year 2050, so enhancing the role of the Fund as a major player in supporting global efforts in facing climate challenges. - Mohammed bin Salman highlighted that the Saudi Arabia aspires at Today's Summit to intensify cooperation and coordination to fund initiatives to find creative solutions to meet common climate challenges in the region.
