Penalties for taking out SIM cards on IDs of other people without their Knowledge
The former Sharia and legal advisor and judge at the Ministry of Justice in Saudi Arabia, Turki Al-Tayyar confirmed the strict imprisonment and financial fines are the penalties for those who takes out SIM cards on identities of other people without their knowledge, after the arrest of a criminal formation who engaged in the crime of financial fraud. He said, "I expect that the criminals will be punished with imprisonment of several years in addition to fines of hundreds and thousands, if not more than millions of riyals, for those who takes out SIM cards on identities of other people without their knowledge".
- Al-Tayyar added that, "The judge may add the penalty of deportation for expatriates participating in the committed crime, as the criminals assumed the character of the state and also took people's money and spent it falsely". - The Saudi Public Prosecution said that the Money prosecution had begun an investigation with a criminal group consisting of a citizen and 6 resident expatriates of Asian nationality, who had engaged in the crime of financial fraud by contacting the victims and deluding them that they were representatives of financial departments and then seizing their confidential data, entering bank accounts and stealing money from them.
- The Public Prosecution added that, the investigation procedures revealed that the citizen took out a commercial record in the telecommunications activity, and allowed the expats to take out sim cards with identities of other people without their knowledge, as they found more than 2000 fingerprints of people that were stored and placed in papers to use and pass them on the identity verification device.
- The authority confirmed that the above mentioned persons were arrested as the charges against them required arrest, as per the decision of the Attorney General. Recommend : Saudi Arabia arrested more than 17,000 foreigners within one week
