Ministry of Interior announced the Penalty for Sharing or Publishing CCTV recordings
The Ministry of Interior in Saudi Arabia confirmed that the system of using security surveillance (CCTV) cameras, punishing anyone who shares or publishes camera recordings, with a fine of 20,000 riyals. Like and Follow Saudi Expatriates on Facebook
The Ministry of Interior said that anyone who violates the provisions of the system of using security surveillance CCTV cameras by transferring or publishing recordings, or damaging or sabotaging security surveillance camera systems and recordings, will be penalized with a fine of 20,000 riyals. - Security surveillance cameras are defined as fixed or moveable devices, designed to capture moving images as per the provisions of the system and do not include cameras placed by individuals inside private residential units and compounds.
- The law of using security surveillance cameras preserved the privacy of individuals, by creating a list of sites where cameras are prohibited to be installed, which are characterized by individual privacy and also took into account not to transfer or use any recordings except by order from the Ministry of Interior or the Presidency of State Security, or by a judicial order, as per the conditions stipulated on them.
- It is also not allowed to engage in the activity of manufacturing or importing security surveillance cameras as specified in the law, or selling, installing, operating or maintaining them, only after obtaining the necessary approvals from the Ministry, as per the procedures specified by the regulations.
