5 suggestions to reduce the harm caused by Plastic utensils - Food and Safety Specialist
Fahd Al-Saeed, a specialist in food safety and quality, offered five suggestions to minimize the harm caused by chemical leaks from plastic utensils used in food, the two most important of which are to avoid using harsh cleaners and to avoid using them for a long period of time. The food safety expert tweeted the following advice to help minimize the harm caused by chemicals leaving from plastic utensils.
1. Do not put food in plastic containers while it is still hot.
2. Avoid using harsh cleaners like wire, which can leave deep scratches on utensils to clean plastic containers and packaging.

4. Never use plastic packets and containers for a long period of time.
5. Avoid routinely putting plastic containers in the dishwasher.
- Purchase BPA-free or PP-made plastic containers, which frequently have the recycling number 5.
- Melamine utensils (a type of plastic) should not be used with high heat, according to the food safety expert. Therefore, avoid using melamine cooking utensils and avoid using them with really hot dishes that are hotter than 70 Celsius.
