Expat arrested for smuggling 2 people into Saudi Arabia
Passport officers working on a key bridge between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain caught an expat who attempted to transport two fellow citizens across the border by hiding them in his car. Trending : Conditions for job transfer of a domestic worker
The Saudi General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) said the failed attempt on the King Fahd Causeway was an illegal attempt to bring the two people into Saudi Arabia.
- The directorate did not give more information on it but in a short statement said, "Legal action was taken against them and they were sent to the appropriate authority."
- Since it opened in the year 1986, the King Fahd Causeway has been an important way for people to travel between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, which are both part of the Gulf Cooperation Council of six countries. Most Viewed : Traffic accidents deaths in Saudi Arabia drop by 40% in a decade
- The Saudi Interior Ministry earlier this week said that the arrest of 17,556 illegal foreigners in one week as part of a national campaign to catch people who break the kingdom's laws on residency, work, and border security.
- The ministry also said that twelve other people were arrested during the crackdown for helping to transport, house, and hire illegal foreigners.
- Saudi Arabia has warned many times that anyone who helps illegal immigrants get into the kingdom or gives them a ride, a place to stay, or any other kind of help could face up to 15 years in prison, a fine of up to SR1 million, the seizure of their means of transportation and lodging, and being named and shamed. - There are a lot of expat workers in Saudi Arabia, which has about 32.2 million people. The government just recently announced plans to control and boost the local job market.
