Saudi Foreign Minister criticizes international community's silence regarding Israel's crimes in Gaza

The Saudi Foreign Minister in his speech at the International Conference on "Women in Islam", Status and Empowerment in Jeddah organized by Islamic Cooperation under the guidance of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, stated the variety of challenges and difficulties women encounter in regions affected by armed conflict and war, such as fear, threat, starvation, social exclusion, and not enough medical and educational allowances for their children, it necessitate us to make a considerable effort in safeguarding and assisting these particularly disadvantaged and impacted communities.

- The Minister stressed that certain nations expose Muslim women to numerous kinds of hurdles, harassment, and discrimination on account of Islamophobic law that restricts their rights, specifically with regard to wearing the hijab. This is in clear violation of the 1979 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women. - He stated that, "We gather today in awareness of the terrible circumstances that Palestinian women in the Gaza Strip are facing as a result of ongoing Israeli violations of humanitarian principles and laws, and in light of the international community's inaction and failure to fulfill its obligations and responsibilities to halt the escalation and the bloodshed and guarantee immediate access to urgent and necessary humanitarian aid."

- The Foreign Affairs Minister further stated that, "Although we strongly denounce and condemn with the utmost severity the violations, unlawful activities, and crimes against humanity imposed upon Palestinian women and the Palestinian people as a whole, we recognize and honor their pivotal role and tremendous selflessness in support of the cause's fight for justice."

- Prince Faisal highlighted Saudi Arabia's progress in empowering women in accordance with the ambitious Vision 2030. He cited the significant rise in women's ownership of 45% of small and medium-sized enterprises, their increase in workforce participation from 19.3% to 37% since 2016, and their increased representation in leadership positions from 17% to 39%. - The Minister expressed admiration for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation's attempts to empower women and give them top priority. Significantly, he referred to the formation of a specialized organization whose leadership consists of Saudi women with expertise in the field of women's development.

- In conclusion, the foreign minister declared the "Jeddah Document for Women in Islam," the official document of the conference, which provides a comprehensive examination of the rights of women in Islam. The purpose of this document is to serve as a legal, legislative, and ideological resource that promotes the actualization of empowerment within Islamic societies.
