Google Cloud opens its new cloud region in Dammam


Eng. Abdullah bin Amer Al-Sawaha, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, was present at the opening of Google Cloud's new cloud region in Dammam. Google Cloud will serve small and medium-sized businesses, startups, and government agencies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Middle East. Al-Sawaha pointed out that, how important it was for Google Cloud to invest in the new region. He said that this investment was a big step toward the Kingdom's goals of becoming a leading regional center for advanced computing technologies. This investment will also help support promising digital business initiatives and speed up the wheel of innovation in AI applications and different business models in each of the public and private sectors.

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, said, "We are witnessing one of the most important technological transformations in our modern history. Artificial intelligence is helping organizations find the best solutions to the problems they face, improve their ability to communicate and interact with customers, and make them more efficient and productive." According to Kurian, the new cloud region will help both public and private organizations get the most out of their data, take advantage of generative AI solutions, and promote a culture of innovation by providing a modern, long-lasting infrastructure with the highest levels of security.

Badr Al Madi, Director of Google Cloud in the Kingdom, said, "We look forward to supporting the digital transformation and empowerment efforts of many businesses and individuals in the Kingdom. By giving the Saudi market access to cloud technologies and artificial intelligence, we will help set the right foundations for digital transformation using the newest digital technologies that help improve business processes and improving customer experiences". 

- Google Cloud network has 39 cloud regions and 118 regions that offer cloud services to more than 200 countries and regions around the world. The new cloud region in Dammam is a part of this network. The key controls in this region will help organizations keep the highest levels of security and availability of local data storage space.
