Saudi Arabia considers coding the Grand Mosque in Makkah for easier access


Saudi Arabia is studying the possibility of implementing coded zones within the Grand Mosque and its courtyards in Makkah to ensure that workers and worshippers have easy access. Trending : Saudi Arabia set to introduce "Passenger with No Bag" service at its Airports



In this regard, the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Prophet's Mosque and the Grand Mosque and the Saudi Postal and Logistics Services Company (SPL) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). On the margins of the Hajj and Umrah Services Conference and Exhibition 2024, the signing took place.

- The SPL will conduct research under the terms of the MOU regarding the division of the Grand Mosque and its courtyards into coded zones in order to facilitate positional description and assist in the accurate determination of geographical locations, thereby assisting workers and believers in navigating the expansive mosque and its premises.

- It is of worth to mention that within the past year, the Grand Mosque received the most Umrah pilgrims in its recorded annals. Recently, Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, Minister of Hajj and Umrah, reported that in 2023, over 13.5 million foreign pilgrims undertook the Umrah. The minister stated that this number represented a 58 percent increase, or five million additional pilgrims, in comparison to the previous year.

- "I have some excellent and extraordinary news to share with you. In 2019, an all-time peak of 8.5 million pilgrims arrived from outside the Kingdom. "The number of Umrah pilgrims increased to 13,550,000 million this year, thanks to the facilities introduced by the Saudi leadership," Al-Rabiah said in the opening session of the Hajj and Umrah Services Conference and Exhibition, which began on January 8 at the Jeddah Superdome.
