Makkah Grand Mosque introduced Smart Golf carts for Tawaf
Smart golf carts have been made available for tawaf (circumambulation around the Holy Kaaba) by the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque. On March 11, 2024, the golf cart service started running on top of the Grand Mosque to help the elderly and pilgrims with special needs during the holy month of Ramadan, which is the busiest time of the year for Umrah.
The authority said that the specified pilgrims can get to the golf cart spot through
1. Ajyad Escalators.
2. The elevators at King Abdulaziz Gate and
3. The elevators at Bab Al Umrah.
- The golf cart is able to be used for 12 hours a day, from 4:00 PM to 4:00 AM. Most Viewed : Eid Al-Fitr is likely to fall on this date in KSA
- "The service is only for performing tawaf," the authority said, adding that it costs 25 Riyals per person, which includes VAT. In order to do tawaf, there are 50 golf carts available, and each one can accommodate 10 people.
- The authority said that the carts could be used by buying tickets at the ticket booths on the roof of the Makkah Grand Mosque.
- The idea makes it easier for people with special needs or physical problems to take part in the spiritual experience of Umrah. Videos on social media have already shown these carts carrying pilgrims to a special floor in the Grand Mosque where they will perform the holy practice.
- The idea of using smart golf carts for this has been thought about since 2014, after the late King Abdullah gave the order.
- While Hajj can only happen once a year, the Umrah pilgrimage to the holy cities of Makkah and Madina can happen at any time of the year. The Kingdom is continuing to make it easier for Muslims around the world to make this journey. Read : For the first time, Saudi Arabia's non-Oil revenue is half of its GDP
