Working hours during Ramadan 2024 for Employees, Schools and Banks in Saudi Arabia


Working hours for Private sector employees during Ramadan 2024 :

The actual working hours during the month of Ramadan shall be reduced for Muslim workers to a maximum of 6 hours a day or 36 hours a week, as per the Article 98 of Saudi Arabia's Labor Law.



The rule is applicable for private sector companies. However, This law is applicable only to the fasting person, but almost all companies in Saudi Arabia provides same rule for both Muslim and Non Muslim workers.

- In case if the workers are asked to work more than 6 hours a day in Ramadan or 36 hours in a week of Ramadan, then they are entitled to overtime pay, the payment will be 1.5 times in overtime calculation.

Working hours for Public sector employees during Ramadan 2024 :

The public sector employees in Saudi Arabia to work for 5 hours a day during Ramadan, from 10 AM to 3 PM, or as per the flexible timings, according to the Plan A (From 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM), Plan B (10:30 to 3:30 PM) and Plan C (from 11:30 AM to 4:30 AM). - This measure aims to facilitate employees in observing their religious duties and fasting while minimizing any adverse impact on their work efficiency.

- These proactive measures have been implemented with the dual purpose of promoting religious commitments and ensuring the sustained productivity of the workforce during the fasting period.

School hours during Ramadan 2024 :

- The Ministry of Education in the kingdom also announced the official working hours during Ramadan 2024 and reduced the school hours to five hours a day, commencing from 10 AM and concluding at 3 PM.

- This modification is designed to alleviate the academic demands on students and relieving pressure on students during the fasting period.

- Additionally, students are anticipated to enjoy an extended break in the final week of Ramadan, stretching until Eid al-Fitr, before the resumption of the academic semester. Recommend : Saudi Arabia introduces Educational visa

Banks, remittance centers and other Financial institutions working hours during Ramadan 2024 :

According to the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA), Banks, remittance centers and Foreign exchange centers to work for 6 hours during Ramadan.

* Banks to serve the public during business days from 10 AM to 4 PM.

* Remittance centers and Foreign exchange centers to work from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

* Eid Al-Fitr holidays for financial institutions to begin from 4th April until 14th April.

* Banks, exchange centers, transfer centers and payment companies are required to open several of their branches in populated and densely populated areas, border crossings and airports to operate for certain periods during the holidays and SAMA should be notified of such branches and opening timings.
