4 Social Media Influencers fined and suspended in Saudi Arabia for offensive content
In response to four well-known social media personalities posts of explicit sexual content on the social media platforms, the Media Regulatory Authority in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has fined them 400,000 Saudi riyals (about $106,000) and suspended their licenses. Dammam was one of the site of an arrest in which a woman was taken into custody by the Eastern Province Police on charges of recording and sharing disturbing visual footage with sexual overtones.
- Similarly, the security patrols in the Riyadh region arrested a resident for documenting and publishing a visual content that have sexual connotations and suggestions that are contrary to the public morals.
- In another case, the Riyadh region police arrested a man and woman who appeared in the visual content in acts contrary to public morals and indecent behavior.

- This crackdown on influencers is just one component of a larger effort by Saudi authorities to keep eyes on and control what these people do online.
- This is all a part of a larger effort to control inappropriate content and make sure that everything shared on social media is in line with the values that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia stands for.
- This is not the first time that Saudi authorities have taken action against famous personalities due to their social media activity, as has been pointed out in local newspapers such as Sabq newspaper.
