Starting from Thursday, April 18, the General Directorate of Traffic (Moroor) in Saudi Arabia began enforcing a royal decree directing a 50% reduction in unpaid traffic fines. Following the orders of Saudi King Salman, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed Bin Salman, this has been implemented.
- If you want to take advantage of this discount, you have to pay up all of your traffic fines within six months, from April 18, 2024, to October 18, 2024. This discount applies to violations that happened before that date. The discount makes it possible to pay the fines all at once or one by one for each violation.
- By reducing penalties for any violations recorded up to the day before the reduction period starts, this historic move aims to ease the financial burden on Saudi citizens, Resident expats, visitors, and GCC nationals living in the Kingdom. - Violators would not be eligible for the discount if they committed any of four specified offenses during the reduction period, as stated in the royal decree that was enforced by the Ministry of the Interior. Which are Drifting, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of narcotics or prohibited substances, and going more than 50 kilometers per hour over the permitted speed limit (120 mph on certain highways and 30 mph on others) are all considered infractions.
- Article 75 of the Saudi Traffic Law, which provides a 25% reduction on single violation, will be applied to violations committed from April 18 onwards, according to the Traffic Directorate. In the event that the fine remains unpaid after the objection period and the legally mandated payment deadline have passed, imprisonment and enforcement measures must be taken as per Article 75.
- While advising citizens to be cautious of dealing with questionable links, phone calls, or websites claiming to offer this service, the Moroor highlighted that traffic violations can be automatically paid using the SADAD payment system and the Efaa platform.
