Hajj pilgrims to benefit from Flying Taxis and Drones in this Hajj season
This year's Hajj pilgrims will have the unique opportunity to use flying taxis and drones, according to Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser. All of these things, including taxi apps, are examples of very modern forms of transportation. Many specialist companies in the transportation sector are competing to deliver the greatest transportation options in the next years, he said. After Thursday morning's arrival of the first group of 283 international pilgrims at Madinah's Prince Muhammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport from India on a Saudi Airlines flight, Al-Jasser made the announcement during a news briefing.
- Among the several measures taken in preparation of this Hajj pilgrimage, Al-Jasser highlighted the allocation of significant funds. There will be more than 27,000 buses available to help pilgrims get about this year, and 7,700 aircraft will be operating from the six airports.
- To further facilitate the completion of Hajj rituals, pilgrims can take advantage of the Al-Mashaaer Al-Mugaddassah Metro Line and the Haramain High-Speed Railway, which are scheduled to operate more than 5,000 trips during this Hajj season. - He went on to say that the Hajj season would see the most of these kinds of transportation, and that it is important to study up on the technology and the best conditions for operating them at certain times. "We will be at the forefront to benefit from these services," he added.
- The statement made by Al-Jasser last year regarding the testing of flying taxis during the Hajj season in the future is notable. Hajj pilgrims will be able to use flying taxis that Saudi Arabian Airlines previously announced to transport them from Jeddah's King Abdulaziz International Airport to Makkah hotels. In order to run the service, Saudia plans to purchase about 100 aircrafts.
- According to Abdullah Al-Shahrani, the Saudi national carrier is planning to implement air taxis as an additional means of transportation during the Hajj season, according to a January statement from the Saudia Group's head of corporate communications. - He announced that 100 Lilium jets, electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) planes manufactured in Germany, have been purchased by the Saudia Group. These planes will be used as shuttles between the airport in Jeddah and the airstrips at hotels in Makkah, close to the Grand Mosque and other holy sites.
- Among the first airplanes to operate totally on electric power is the electric plane Lilium. He said that, after all preparations are finalized, the planes would transport pilgrims from Jeddah's King Abdulaziz International Airport to Makkah's airstrips near the Grand Mosque during the Hajj and Umrah seasons. A mini-commercial plane that takes passengers on short trips as needed is called an air taxi. Follow Saudi Expatriates on X
