Work in direct sunlight to be banned in Saudi Arabia from this date
Authorities in Saudi Arabia will enforce a ban on working under direct sunlight for all private sector establishments from 12 PM to 3 PM, starting Saturday, June 15, 2024, and continuing until September 15, 2024. Trending : Employment in private sector tops in Saudi Arabia in May
Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) and National Council for Occupational Safety and Health (NCOSH) will work together to enforce the prohibition of working under direct sunlight.
- The aim of this decision is to guarantee that workers in the private sector are safe from harm and that they have access to a healthy and safe workplace that meets international standards for occupational safety and health.
- In order to help create a safe work environment, improve the efficiency and methods of prevention to reduce occupational injuries and diseases, and protect workers from accidents, the ministry urged employers to organize working hours in compliance with this decision. This, in turn, will improve and increase productivity.
- There will be exemptions in some parts of Saudi Arabia for outdoor work ban under direct sun, where the temperatures are low in some areas. The branch of Human Resources Ministry will coordinate with such regions in this regard of taking decision, whether to work ban under the sun or not. - This decision is not applicable to workers of oil and gas companies or those engaging in emergency maintenance works.

- The "Procedural Guide for Occupational Safety and Health to Prevent the Effects of Sun Exposure and Heat Stress" is currently available online, thanks to the ministry's publication.
- Earlier this, the National Center of Meteorology (NMC) has announced that this year's summer season in Saudi Arabia will commence on June 1st. While the Kingdom's summer tourist locations can anticipate above-average rainfall, the eastern and central regions should expect temperatures to rise, according to the NMC prediction. When asked about the impending summer weather, NMC spokesman Hussein Al-Qahtani stated that early signs indicate very hot circumstances. As the spring season finished, temperatures began to rise across the Kingdom during the last two weeks. Recent days have seen a wide range of meteorological conditions across Saudi Arabia, including rain and sandstorms.
