Al-Khobar certified as a Healthy City through World Health Organization


Al-Khobar City in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was certified as a healthy city, after fulfilling 80 requirements set out by the WHO (World Health Organization). See Also : Al-Khobar joins in the list of World's smart cities



The city received an international accreditation certificate after meeting and exceeding the final examination. The city's parks, walking trails, and primary care clinics and schools commitment to health promotion are the reasons for this success.

- Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, Emir of the Eastern Region, and Fahd Al-Jalajel, Minister of Health, formally received the accreditation certificate.

- In terms of regional collaboration with the World Health Organization on healthy cities, the Ministry of Health's Healthy Cities Programme is the first of its kind, and the fourth worldwide.

- The program's hallmarks are its health-focused development initiatives and its attempts to improve people's quality of life. To achieve this goal, it establishes goals for future health indicators, launches programs and activities to increase sustainability, and aims to decrease the frequency of chronic diseases caused by unhealthy lifestyles.

- A healthier and more prosperous Saudi Arabia is the final aim, along with a reduction in health risks and associated medical expenses and an improvement in the country's position on global health metrics.

- As Dr. Al-Jalajel pointed out, the Emir of the Eastern Region, the Deputy Emir, and the Director of Health Affairs have consistently shown their support and interest in Al-Khobar, which is why the World Health Organization has recognized it as a healthy city. - He conveyed his appreciation to all the organizations and individuals that contributed to the main committee and its subcommittees, including the following: the Eastern Province Emirate, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, the Ministry of Commerce, the General Directorate of Health Affairs in the Eastern Region, the General Directorate of Civil Defense, the General Directorate of Traffic, the Eastern Region Police, the General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC), the Eastern Province Municipality, Asharqia Chamber, representatives of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, representatives of the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation, the National Center for Environmental Compliance (NCEC), the Coordination Council for Charitable Societies, representatives of the community for various segments and the city coordinator.
