Muvi Cinemas in Saudi Arabia adds 4 new theaters to its list
The biggest Saudi exhibitor, Muvi Cinemas, has collaborated with Imax Corp to provide 4 IMAX with laser systems to their theaters, two in Riyadh, the capital city, one in Jeddah's Mall of Arabia and the initial theater in Dhahran. Under the muvi deal, 10 Imax theaters are already open to the public in Saudi Arabia, while another 22 are in the works. Imax thinks it can open 50 theaters across the Kingdom. Imax has formed a collaboration with the four leading Saudi Arabian exhibitors thanks to the muvi agreement.
- Imax has achieved remarkable success in Saudi Arabia with its recent releases. The highest-grossing Imax film ever in Saudi Arabia is "Oppenheimer," which was shot for the format.
- "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" from last month is one of the top five. Imax Hollywood releases, as well as regional releases from Japan and India, find a receptive audience in Saudi Arabia.
