As part of its Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program, the Ministry is aiming to improve the production, manufacturing, and marketing of the fig fruit, among other promising crops.

Several kinds of figs, including Madani, Turkish, local, Waziri, Kadota, and White King varieties, are produced throughout the Kingdom from February to November each year, according to the Ministry's "Harvest Season" campaign, which seeks to educate the public about agricultural products and highlight the availability of seasonal fruits and vegetables.

Eating locally grown fruit during its production seasons achieves the maximum nutritional and health benefits from its consumption. Figs have numerous health benefits, including immunity to Alzheimer's disease, reduced blood pressure, improved hair and skin health, strengthened bones, and regulation of blood sugar levels.

"Saudi Arabia achieves self-sufficiency in figs by 111%, with annual production quantities exceeding 28,000 tons in a cultivated area of approximately 1,421 hectares in various regions of the Kingdom," the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture revealed. The "Harvest Season" campaign has several goals that align with the Ministry's policy of promoting the production and consumption of local products. One of these goals is to educate people about the different kinds of fruits and vegetables that grow in the area, as well as when they are in season.

This is to ensure that they are of higher quality and safety standards, that more people are aware of agricultural products, and that more people in the Kingdom are aware of the different seasonal fruit options available. It will also help local farmers by making their marketing system more efficient during the harvest season, which will increase their financial returns.
