The revisions gave working women the right to twelve weeks of paid maternity leave, of which six weeks are required after childbirth. The remaining six weeks can be used anyway the woman sees appropriate, beginning four weeks prior to the expected date of delivery.

A health authority-certified medical certificate specifies the expected time of delivery. The rest of the leave time will be considered unpaid leave if it is less than six weeks because the delivery was not made on schedule. The working woman is entitled to a one-month unpaid leave extension in all circumstances.

It also gave working women the right to a month of paid leave following the conclusion of their maternity leave, which they might extend for an additional month without pay if they become the parents of a sick or disabled child whose medical condition necessitates constant care.

Regarding death leave, a three-day paid leave has been added in the event that a brother or sister passes away, this leave is computed from the day of the incident. Read : Cable Car system by next year in Makkah's Cave Hira

The modifications included a clause allowing for the possibility of agreeing to get compensatory leave in exchange for working overtime.

According to the new labor law's modifications, all working hours completed on holidays, including Eid, count as overtime.

Upon marriage or in the event of spouse passed away, the employee is entitled to five days of fully paid leave.

If the contract's duration is not specified, the procedure for determining its duration and how it will be renewed for the non-Saudi worker is also decided.

According to the revisions, the employment contract must state whether the worker is subject to a probationary term, as long as the overall duration does not exceed 180 days in all circumstances. Also Read : Saudi Arabia announces new amendments to its Labor Law

If the agreement is for an indefinite time and the worker receives a monthly income, either party may end it, however, the worker must give notice to the employer 30 days in advance of his intended resignation date. But the employer must provide the employee with written notice at least 60 days prior to the termination date. Similarly, the party wishing to end the contract must offer written notice at least thirty days in advance if the employee is not paid on a monthly basis. Subscribe to Saudi Expatriates on YouTube
