World's first electric Hydrofoil Ship is coming to Neom in Saudi Arabia

World's first electric Hydrofoil Ship is coming to Neom in Saudi Arabia

NEOM, an environmentally friendly city in Saudi Arabia, has placed an order for 8 Candela P-12s, the first electric hydrofoil ships ever manufactured, for use in the development of its water network. See Also : New King Salman stadium to be built in Riyadh by 2029

The order represents the biggest ever obtained by Candela Technology AB, a Stockholm-based corporation.

Compared to traditional ships, the P-12s consume 80% less energy as they sail through the air on hydrofoils steered by computers. With a lifespan of almost two hours and a speed of 25 knots, it achieves a first for an electric ship, combining long range with high speed.

By delivering operational costs that are up to 50% lower, the company's hydrofoils also help operators move to more sustainable ships.

The 2014-founded firm plans to deliver its first eight vessels in the year 2025 and early 2026.

The P-12 is intended to produce zero-emission water transportation systems that offer considerable advantages over regular water commuting, according to Gustav Hasselskog, CEO and creator of Candela. Trending : Cable car system to be introduced at Cave Hira in Makkah

"Travelers can enjoy considerably more frequent departures and faster journeys on the Candela P-12 compared to the larger, slower, and less energy-efficient conventional ferries used by legacy systems."

The Candela P-12, which was introduced in the year 2023, will have its public transportation premiere in the fall of the year 2024 in Stockholm.

The Flight controller is the brains of the hydrofoil tech stack, it regulates the foils to automatically stabilize the vessel in flight based on a variety of elements, including sensors that measure wave height and wind speed. The business guarantees that riders will feel 90% less g-forces than on a conventional boat, even in severe weather.

In order to reduce emissions, Candela's energy efficiency is essential. During its lifespan, a P-12 will release 97.5% less CO₂ than a typical diesel vessel of the same size, according to a life cycle analysis conducted by the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. There is very little noise and disruption caused by the underwater electric Candela C-POD motors to marine life. In flight, they produce almost little wake, which allows them to travel more quickly than traditional ships, whose enormous and destructive wakes limit their speed.

We take great pride in offering a ship system that considers the needs of both passengers and the environment. According to Hasselskog, "how we travel on water will be revolutionized" by the introduction of shorter wait times, faster connections and a more pleasant experience that does not negatively impact the environment through wakes, emissions, or noise.

In the year 2019, following five years of R&D, Candela started manufacturing the Candela C-7, the first electric hydrofoil recreational boat in the world. After that, in the year 2022, came the high-volume market Candela C-8, and the first consumers got their hands on it in the spring of the year 2023. So far, more than 150 of the outstanding C-8s have been sold. Join Saudi Expats news at Telegram channel
