On Tuesday, the Council of Ministers approved the regulations governing temporary work visas and temporary work for Hajj and Umrah services, according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development. The regulations will provide the private sector with considerable freedom to utilize temporary visas in accordance with their labor market requirements and operational needs. The ministry issued a statement, which was reported by the Saudi Press Agency, that the new amendments will be implemented 180 days after the Cabinet's approval.
Among the regulations most notable features is the extension of the visa's grace period, which will commence on Shaban 15 and conclude on Muharram. Additionally, the seasonal work visa was renamed to temporary work visa for Hajj and Umrah services. The regulations were revised to accommodate the requirements of establishments that are operational during the Umrah season.
In addition to assuring the governance of operations and increasing transparency, the articles of the regulations following the update also included a comprehensive explanation of the work mechanisms between the relevant authorities and the time periods required to complete the procedures. The updates also considered the rights of both parties to the contractual relationship. The regulation mandated that the Saudi diplomatic missions abroad provide a copy of the employment contract signed by both parties and that medical insurance be available as a basic requirement before granting the visa.
The updated regulations include a chapter on penalties, which is intended to prevent any violations or practices that result in the misuse of these visas.
In addition, the revisions removed the necessity for endorsement when issuing a temporary work visa, and they provided establishments with greater flexibility by extending the duration of temporary visas by equivalent 90 days. Subscribe to Saudi Expatriates on YouTube
