The employee is required to take fully paid leave in the event that their spouse or any member of their "ascendants or descendants" passes away. According to the ministry, in Saudi labor law, "ascendants" means parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents, while "descendants" means sons, daughters, and grandchildren.
The worker is also entitled to five days of paid leave upon marriage, or in the event of the death of his spouse or one of his ascendants or descendants, and three days in the case of the death of a brother or sister, according to Article 113 of the Saudi Labor Law. The calculation for this leave begins on the date the case is filed.
