13 Million Expats from 60 countries make up 40% of Saudi population
More than 13 million expats from around 60 countries have called Saudi Arabia home, showing a new level of respect for diverse races and cultures, according to Dr. Hala Al-Tuwaijri, president of the Saudi Human Rights Commission (HRC). Trending : Riyadh Metro ticket price starts from 4 Riyals
"These expatriates constitute more than 40% of the Kingdom’s population, and they enjoy their rights guaranteed by Saudi Arabia’s laws and international laws," she said during her speech in Geneva on Wednesday, leading the Saudi Arabian delegation to the 114th session of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD).
“The Saudi leadership has implemented reforms that strengthened its established principles of justice and equality,” Dr. Al-Tuwaijri stated. Thanks to reforms in areas such as employment, tourism, investment, residence, hosting international events, and more, Saudi Arabia has become more welcoming to people of all backgrounds and faiths since implementing Saudi Vision 2030, she added.
On a policy level, Saudi Arabia has taken action against racial and other forms of discrimination in the workplace by instituting the National Policy to Promote Equal Opportunities and Treatment in Employment and Occupation and the National Policy to Prevent Child Labor. The Saudi leadership's commitment to equality and justice, as well as its rejection of racism and discrimination, led to the establishment of a system that includes laws, institutions, and the courts, all of which work together to eradicate these evils, added Al-Tuwaijri.
