SAUDI EXPATRIATES

After rumors circulated that the auction would take place in Riyadh, the Indian Premier League announced in a statement that the major IPL 2025 Player Auction will really take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25.

For the most part, the auctions took place in different places around India. However, last year, the league decided to hold them in the UAE, which was a first.

According to the release, 1,574 players (1,165 Indian and 409 international) registered to participate in the mega auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) after the registration period officially ended on November 4. There are 320 players with caps, 1,224 without caps, and 30 from Associate Nations on the list.

Due to the release of multiple prominent players, the Saudi Arabian city is sure to be an active hub of activity. Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul were all let go by their respective teams after serving as captains. Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Arshdeep Singh are among the other noteworthy players that are up for grabs. Out of a total of 204 available spots, 70 are reserved for international players. Teams have spent a total of Rs 5.585 billion (Dh244 million) to keep 46 players.

The overall budget of all the teams is Rs 6.415 billion (Dh280.11 million), with each team receiving Rs 1.200 billion (Dh52.40 million). This should make for some intense competition for the best players. Among the remaining teams, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has the second-largest payment at Rs 830 million (Dh36.25 million), behind Punjab Kings' Rs1.105 billion (Dh48.25 million).

Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, who have won the title five times each, and defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals, who have won the title once before, have retained all of their options with six players each.

Overtaking cricket superstar Virat Kohli, Heinrich Klaasen of South Africa became the most expensive player retained in the IPL. Along with Travis Head and Australian skipper Pat Cummins, Sunrisers Hyderabad retained the hard-hitting wicketkeeper-batsman for Rs230 million (Dh10.04 million).
