The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development in the Kingdom announced this historic proposal, which will make Saudi Arabia the first Arab country to adopt a comprehensive policy to end forced labor.
When it came to approving the ILO's 2014 Protocol to the Forced Labor Convention, Saudi Arabia was ahead of the curve among GCC nations.
The new policy demonstrates the Kingdom's commitment to combating forced labor on a global and national level, as well as its line with international standards.
Prevention, victim protection, and improved cooperation on a global, regional, and national scale are the three pillars upon which the policy rests. Recommend: Saudi Arabia resolves 130,000 labor cases last year
Protecting workers' rights and providing necessary aid to victims of forced labor are its stated goals.
This regulation is a huge win for the kingdom, according to Sattam Alharbi, the deputy minister responsible for workplace control and development.
It is a historic day for Saudi Arabia that the National Policy for the Elimination of Forced Labor has been introduced. Our shared dedication to making our nation a secure place to live and work, where everyone's rights are respected, is evident in this.
“Our ongoing work to safeguard employees' rights, in collaboration with global and local partners, is further strengthened by the introduction of the National Policy,” he added. See Also: Saudi Arabia implements Professional Verification service for workers of 160 countries.
Legal, social, and economic assistance are all part of victim-centered programs that the National Policy highlights as a means to help victims restore and avoid being victims again.
Victims of forced labor will have access to legal and healthcare systems that will help them recover and regain their lives.
In order to improve working conditions even further, the Kingdom has promised to keep collaborating with international groups like the International Labor Organization (ILO). Read: Saudi Arabia tightens Tobacco products sales
