Two landing strips inside the Grand Mosque in Makkah have been opened for use by air ambulances, according to Health Minister Fahd Al-Jalajel's Monday announcement. This landmark move strengthens the framework for emergency healthcare. Recommend: Eid Al-Fitr prayer to perform 15 minutes after sunrise

This historic move is being taken in response to the directions of our enlightened leadership to ensure the health and safety of the pilgrims, as the Minister of Health explained in a tweet on his X account.

With the yearly increase in the number of pilgrims and Umrah performers, as well as in preparation for the Hajj season, the move is made to facilitate the rapid medical evacuation of critical cases, in keeping with the Kingdom's dedication to improving the efficiency of healthcare services and providing high-quality medical care.

By improving the transportation of emergency cases to Makkah and Jeddah referral hospitals, these additional landing strips will ensure that medical services respond quickly and that patients receive treatment when they need it.

There was a successful practice landing of an air ambulance on the Grand Mosque's eastern runway by the Saudi Red Crescent Authority. The purpose of the exercise was to ensure that medical teams were prepared to conduct emergency evacuation operations to the highest international standards. The Grand Mosque Emergency Hospital was also launched yesterday as part of the continuous efforts of the Kingdom to increase its rapid response capabilities to emergencies. Pilgrims have better access to healthcare and emergency treatment at this facility throughout the Umrah and Hajj seasons. The hospital is staffed by a highly trained medical team and operates continuously, using cutting-edge medical technology.

The Haram Emergency Hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology, including an intensive care unit, a medical laboratory, and a radiology department. It also includes an in-house pharmacy on the premises, as well as sections for intensive care, respiratory emergencies, observation, and infectious disease isolation.

As part of the third expansion of the Grand Mosque, the hospital is situated on the northern side, across from King Abdullah Gate. The hospital is a high-capacity facility with two air ambulance landing pads, which significantly improves the efficiency of managing various medical problems. This, in turn, greatly affects the health and safety of pilgrims. Stay informed and connected! Join the Saudi Expatriates WhatsApp group for essential updates and local insights
