Two landing strips inside the Grand Mosque in Makkah have been opened for use by air ambulances, according to Health Minister Fahd Al-Jalajel's Monday announcement. This historic move is being taken in response to the directions of our enlightened leadership to ensure the health and safety of the pilgrims, as the Minister of Health explained in a tweet on his X account.
With the yearly increase in the number of pilgrims and Umrah performers, as well as in preparation for the Hajj season, the move is made to facilitate the rapid medical evacuation of critical cases, in keeping with the Kingdom's dedication to improving the efficiency of healthcare services and providing high-quality medical care.
By improving the transportation of emergency cases to Makkah and Jeddah referral hospitals, these additional landing strips will ensure that medical services respond quickly and that patients receive treatment when they need it.
There was a successful practice landing of an air ambulance on the Grand Mosque's eastern runway by the Saudi Red Crescent Authority. The Grand Mosque Emergency Hospital was also launched yesterday as part of the continuous efforts of the Kingdom to increase its rapid response capabilities to emergencies.
