Perform only 1 Umrah during the final 10 days of blessed Ramadan

In an effort to make the final 10 days of Ramadan as easy as possible for the millions of pilgrims who are expected to visit Mecca for the Umrah, a spiritually beneficial pilgrimage, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in Saudi Arabia has released new operational guidelines. The ministry urged pilgrims to follow all organizational protocols to ensure the security and peace of the journey as the number of pilgrims reached its yearly peak.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs issued an infographic on Thursday urging Umrah pilgrims to get their permits ahead of time and to be punctual so that the Grand Mosque is not overcrowded.

It was suggested by the Ministry that pilgrims should limit themselves to one Umrah at this time and pray in mosques around Mecca instead of jamming everyone into the Haram. This would help ease the pressure on the holy site.

To reduce traffic, pilgrims were urged to take public transportation, and they were told not to pack the stairwells or hallways so that other worshippers may move freely.

There has been an increase in operational readiness on the part of the General Authority for the Care of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque in preparation for the unprecedented level of pilgrimage. Officials have unveiled a comprehensive service plan that includes measures to improve accessibility, manage crowds, and maintain environmental hygiene. Maintaining cleanliness, managing crowds, and delivering essential services like Zamzam water, fragrant prayer places, and logistical assistance (such as carts and escalators) have all been accomplished by deploying thousands of staff and pieces of equipment.

The mosque can now be disinfected in 35 minutes, according to the authority, and using over 2 kg of oud per round, cleaning staff sweep the mosque twenty times a day. There are cooling systems with a 90,000-ton energy capacity, as well as 428 escalators, 28 elevators, and more than 1,300 electric speakers.

There has also been a focus on services for people with disabilities and the elderly. The convenience and comfort of all guests have been prioritized with the introduction of dedicated prayer rooms, luggage storage, and a 24-hour childcare center.

Also, new arrangements have been made for itikaf, the spiritual retreat that takes place over the last ten nights, and a central online platform for transportation reservations is being worked on to make it easier for pilgrims to move around the city.
