Shortest and Longest fasting hours worldwide in Ramadan 2025


Since Muslims all around the globe will be fasting on Saturday, March 1, 2025, while few others are about to fast on Sunday, March 2, 2025, the actual hours that Muslims fast will vary greatly depending on where they live. According to astronomical calculations, Muslims in Algeria will fast for 16 hours and 44 minutes, which is the longest fasting duration in the Arab world.

On the other hand, with a duration of only 13 hours, Somalia's fasting period will be the shortest in the region.

This year, the majority of Arab nations will likely observe fasting hours ranging from sixteen to seventeen hours.

Longest time of fasting:

Some parts of Finland, Norway, and Sweden will experience fasting periods of up to twenty hours and thirty minutes.

While the sun never sets in certain northern latitudes, it barely dips below the horizon for a few minutes in Kiruna, Sweden.

Because of the "midnight sun" phenomenon, which causes daylight to persist longer in areas near the Arctic Circle, the capital of Greenland, Nuuk, can experience fasting lasting up to twenty hours.

The fasting period in Finland will be close to 19 hours and 9 minutes, whereas in Iceland it will be 19 hours and 59 minutes.

Shortest fasting hours:

On the other hand, due to the reduced daylight hours at this time of year, the Southern Hemisphere will record the shortest fasting periods. The fasting hours in urban areas like Harare, Zimbabwe, and Brasilia, Brazil, are 12–13 hours.

Fasting durations of around 11 to 12 hours are observed in Montevideo, Uruguay, Ciudad del Este, Johannesburg, and Cape Town, Uruguay, as well as in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay.
